College Degrees Worth the Most Money
Going to college costs big bucks. While it might be really fun to study physical education, it’s probably not worth the time and investment. Here are the highest earning degrees in 2006.
We all know what college is really about. Late night weekends, hanging with the friends, going to the colligate games. It’s almost too easy to forget why you decided to go to college in the first place: The Money! O.K., maybe there is the added benfit of personal enrichment, but if you are aiming for he big bucks, here are some of the most lucrative bachelors degree’s you can strive to get under your belt.
Engineering
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (naceweb.org), engineering students are being offered the highest entry-level salaries of any profession. On average, here are their findings:
- Chemical engineering $55,900
- Electrical engineering $52, 899
- Mechanical engineering $50,672
While engineering degrees consistently earn top honors, salary growth seems to be slowing. Chemical and electrical engineering salaries each grew around four percent from 2005 levels, but mechanical engineering salaries actually declined by about 0.3 percent.
Business
Accounting, economics, finance or business administration graduates are among the fastest-growing earners. Students majoring in these subjects are increasingly in high demand. Average starting salaries according to NACE:
- Accounting $45,723
- Economics $45,191
- Finance $45,191
- Business administration $39,850
Economics and finance have taken the lead in rising salaries. Graduates going into each profession are earning 11 percent more than one year ago.
Fast Company magazine (fastcompany.com) has just published its annual list of the most desirable professions for the new year. Their results are based on salary growth, demand and appeal of the position. Topping the list: Lawyer, personal financial advisor, sales manager and information technology manager.
