We live on a world where frontiers between countries is less mark than years ago. It is that because the countries interact in political, social, and economic aspects.
It does necessary a common language, so many times we have to learn a foreign language. I think that if children study a second language as soon as they start school, they can learn easier and better that language.
First of all, it is well-known that the edge is an important factor to learn a foreign language. To learn a new language implicates memorize a lot of words. I think people assimilate this kind of knowledge well when they are younger. For example, I am studying English and see the differences between my younger classmates and me.
They really do not have problems to speak and to understand many skills in grammar, listening, and reading. However, it is not my case, I began studying English at the same time that I started university, and I have a lot of problems to pronounce well.
Second, to learn a foreing language younger gives the opportunity to learn the language as well as the native language. When people learn a second language, usually they translate to their natural language. It does more difficult to learn the language. However, when somebody in his or her first years of studies learns a foreign language at the same time that his or her language, they do not translate, they only “draw” in their mind the meaning of the words. For instance, when I read in English, I almost always realize that I translate each word in Spanish, my native language. I am sure that it is not the best way to understand a written well.
In conclusion, I think that learn a second language involves many things such as motivation, teachers, programs, time, etc. It also depends of each one, but I feel that the edge is very important to learn a language well. So, I agree about studying a foreign language when children start school.
